We are very happy to finally be up and running in the tech world! We look forward to providing you with news, updates, information and last minute announcements in regards to our Full Day Learning Kindergarten class here at St. Gabriel Catholic School in Kanata.
It is with excitement that the children (and teachers ;o) returned from a well-deserved break. Rested and ready to go, we embarked on a journey through our new winter wonderland! After reading various winter-related stories, the children demonstrated a curiosity about PENGUINS so off we waddled with it!
We have been reading and comparing various fiction and non-fiction material to help us extend our understanding of penguin life. The children's inquiries have led us in a fun study of various Learning Areas of our Program. For example,
- Language: reading simple repetitive texts; using popcorn words for shared and independent writing; practising how to pose questions
- Math: recognizing written numerals and representing them with manipulatives; practising addition and subtraction from 1-10 (5 little penguins skating on the ice - one fell down...)
- Science: exploring snow and ice properties; sea life; penguin life cycle and diet, etc.
- French: winter vocabulary; sight words; action words (paper copy to follow)
