October is here (can you believe it?) and there is much buzz about an exciting month ahead! The past few weeks have been spent getting ready for Thanksgiving. We will move on to Halloween activities later this month.
The children have been hard at work making a variety of crafts and learning prayers, poems and songs that focus on the importance of showing gratitude for all of their blessings.
While our goal is to create awareness of how truly blessed we are to have family, shelter, food, etc., the children are also learning that there are some in our communities who are not so fortunate. As you may have read on the school website, St Gabriel school is collecting food for the Kanata Food Cupboard. In particular, we have been asked to request donations of cereal and rice. Children who are able to donate are asked to bring in their food item tomorrow.
A few housekeeping notes: We will be sending the children's quiet time blankets home to be washed over the long week-end. Please return them Tuesday. We will continue to send the blankets home at the beginning of each month. Also, if you still have not sent in a family photo we encourage you to do so. All the photos are placed in a photo album that is available in our classroom "safe space" where children can go to reflect and regroup if they need a 'break' at any point in the day.
Finally, tomorrow is " wear St Gabriel's color day". In case you are not aware - Purple is our color!!
Please note the following Thanksgiving prayers that we have been learning with the children:
Thank you God for all that grows
Thank you for the sky's rainbows
Thank you for the stars that shine
Thank you for these friends of mine
Thank you for the moon and sun
Thank you God for all you've done!
Merci mon Dieu pour les oiseaux, pour les fleurs et les étoiles,
Pour le soleil, la pluie et l'herbe.
Merci mon Dieu, AMEN
We would like to wish you all a wonderful Thanksgiving week-end with your loved ones.
