Are we having fun with this weather yet? Fortunately, we have managed to take advantage of it and test some aspects of the water cycle.
As you may have heard, the children were thrilled to take part in Mr.Bruce's very 'cool' winter experiment. He took boiling water in a thermos outside and almost instantly turned it into snow by throwing it high up in the frigid air. As such the children were able to observe water vapour (evaporation) as the steam rose quickly from the thermos. As the water was thrown high in the air it froze almost instantaneously (condensation) with the resulting fallout of snow (precipitation).
In the last few weeks we have been focusing on counting and addition. The children have enjoyed counting and adding with various manipulatives, including marshmallows and 'ice' beads. We have quite a few little mathematicians on our hands!
In French, there has been a focus on 'Winter" as the children practice using vocabulary related to their winter wear. We've also been singing and reading about all the fun activities Winter has to offer. Please see the new link: C'est l'hiver - winter activities, on the right of this page for a fun learning song.
We hope that you will take advantage of the week-end to cuddle up and stay warm!
